Ekka is Brisbane’s annual exhibition that runs for a few weeks each year, and one of the highlights is the Natural Fibres Fashion Parade. It showcases designers working with natural materials, with multiple shows running daily throughout the whole event. In 2023, the theme was “Pearls” to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fashion show at Ekka since pearls are the traditional 20th wedding anniversary gift. Iridescence was also part of the theme, which really sparked my inspiration. I began crafting two unique garments for the show, spending weeks and countless hours bringing them to life. Every detail was carefully considered to reflect the theme and honour the beauty of natural fibres through my own creative lens.
