Brazil Week 2022 - Fashion Day, Brisbane
For the very first Brazil Week held in Brisbane, Australia, I designed and created a one-of-a-kind wearable art piece for the Fashion Day event. This handcrafted dress was inspired by Brazil’s natural resource of gold, symbolised by the yellow on the national flag. Delicate lace detailing features motifs of the ipê-amarelo, Brazil’s national flower, intricately hand-beaded to reflect the richness of the country’s culture and beauty. Designed to be both symbolic and celebratory, the piece served as a tribute to Brazil’s heritage, presented on stage as part of an immersive cultural experience in Australia.
Starting the Process
Starting the idea and planning how I was going to create the outfit was really important to me. I began with a sketch to get my vision down on paper, then moved straight into draping on the mannequin to develop the perfect silhouette for the look. I wanted the shape to feel intentional and powerful. It took a full two weeks to bring this dress to life - from the initial concept to the very last detail. Every element, including the finishing touches and hand-beading, was done with care to celebrate Brazil through wearable art.
Fashion on the Fields
After everything, it was so rewarding to see the dress displayed as a wearable art piece for a whole year. Later, I wore it to a Fashion on the Field event. Even though it didn’t win anything, the dress truly stood out - it drew a lot of attention and sparked so many conversations. It felt really special and individual and I was proud to wear something that carried so much meaning and personal craftsmanship.
