The Journey of Becoming explores the journey of personal growth, achievement, uncertainty, and transformation. Through textile-based works that combine embroidery, symbolism, and storytelling, the exhibition reflects on the experiences that shape who we are and who we continue to become.
The exhibition was inspired by the period of uncertainty that can follow achievement. After reaching goals that once felt significant and defining, many people find themselves asking what comes next. While achievement is often celebrated, the space between reaching one goal and discovering the next is rarely discussed. The Journey of Becoming examines this transitional space and the emotions, questions, and possibilities that exist within it.
Throughout the exhibition, symbolic imagery is used to represent different stages of this journey. Peonies symbolise achievement, growth, and the rewards of patience and dedication. Sparrows represent movement, resilience, and navigating periods of uncertainty. Swans embody transformation, maturity, and the ongoing evolution of identity. Together, these symbols create a visual narrative that explores the relationship between accomplishment, self-discovery, and future potential.
While the works may initially appear decorative and aesthetically driven, they are grounded in deeper reflections on identity, purpose, ambition, and the human experience. With textiles and symbolism, The Journey of Becoming invites viewers to look beyond the surface and consider their own journeys throughout life.
Ultimately, this exhibition is an exploration of the shared experience of becoming. It encourages viewers to reflect on their own achievements, moments of uncertainty, and the paths that continue to shape who they are. Rather than presenting becoming as a destination, the exhibition celebrates it as a lifelong process of growth, change, and discovery.
This exhibition marks the culmination of one chapter in my artistic practice, as I grow and continue to evolve both personally and creatively. It also represents the beginning of a new chapter and direction that I look forward to sharing in the years ahead.
Blooming represents the first stage of the journey. It symbolises growth, achievement, and the unfolding of potential through patient dedication. The floral imagery reflects the process of coming into one’s own, each bloom representing the development, resilience, and quiet work that takes place before growth becomes visible.
The emphasis is not on achievement as a final destination, but on the moment of reaching a goal and recognising the transformation that has taken place along the way. Blooming acknowledges that every achievement becomes the foundation for new beginnings, inviting further growth, exploration, and possibility.
It celebrates not only what has been accomplished, but also the resilience, commitment, and quiet determination required to reach that moment.
Blooming
Horizon represents the second stage of the journey. It symbolises uncertainty, reflection, and the transitional space between achievement and what comes next.
It is a threshold of change, where direction is not yet defined, identity begins to shift, and possibilities exist without certainty. This stage embraces the discomfort of the unknown, recognising that growth often occurs in moments without clear answers. It invites reflection, curiosity, and the courage to continue moving forward, trusting that clarity will emerge with time rather than seeking immediate resolution.
Air becomes a central element within Horizon, representing openness, movement, breath, and possibility. Like the space beyond the horizon, the path ahead cannot yet be fully seen or understood. Horizon embraces this openness as part of becoming, the quiet transformation that takes place between one chapter and the next.
Horizon
Infinite represents the final stage of the journey. It symbolises expansion, continuity, and the understanding that becoming does not end. Instead, the journey extends beyond defined goals into ongoing cycles of growth, transformation, and self-discovery.
This stage embraces the understanding that every experience, achievement, and challenge becomes part of an evolving journey rather than a final destination. It reflects a sense of openness to new possibilities, where each ending naturally gives rise to another beginning.
Space becomes a central element within Infinite, representing freedom, expansiveness, and the limitless possibilities that exist beyond what has already been known. Infinite celebrates the continuing nature of personal growth, recognising that identity is never fixed, but continues to evolve through curiosity, resilience, and a lifelong pursuit of meaning.
